Monitoring of Prostate Cancer

19th September 2016

Prostate Cancer

Interesting research from Oxford University reported in the September issue of “Incontinence”:
Men with prostate cancer who choose to be actively monitored are enjoying a life without the side effects (which include incontinence and erectile dysfunction) of radical surgery to remove the prostate gland or radiation therapy. Of the 2,664 men monitored over the 10 year period, cancer had spread 33 in the actively monitored group compared to 13 men who had had surgery and 16 who had had radiation.

A dilemma indeed – what would you choose if you were told you had prostate cancer?
